Exodus 35 : In case you didn’t get it the first time…

March 4, 2024 ·

Summary:
Moses instructs the people to observe the Sabbath.

He then requests voluntary contributions from the people for the construction of the Tabernacle and calls upon those with skills to assist in its various components’ construction.

Moses announces that Bezalel and Oholiab have been chosen by God and endowed with the Spirit for the task of artistic craftsmanship.

Key verse:
29. All the men and women, the people of Israel, whose heart moved them to bring anything for the work that the LORD had commanded by Moses to be done brought it as a freewill offering to the LORD.

My thoughts:
This marks the beginning of what might be considered the third most extensive repetition in the Bible. The most significant repetition could arguably be found in 1 and 2 Chronicles, which revisit events from the books of Samuel and Kings, and the second might be the Gospels. A few chapters prior, God detailed instructions to Moses, and now, over the next five chapters, we observe these commands being executed verbatim.

This repetition underscores the Israelites’ adherence to constructing the Tabernacle as instructed.

Additionally, the divine blessing upon Bezalel and Oholiab highlights God’s support for and appreciation of art and creative endeavors, showcasing His own creativity.

Given that the upcoming chapters essentially reiterate what has already been discussed, my commentary on them might be limited.
