Exodus 30 : Various other bits

February 19, 2024 ·

An altar made of acacia wood is to be constructed and placed in front of the curtain that shields the Ark of the Covenant. Aaron is tasked with burning incense on it each morning and at twilight. The altar is reserved exclusively for this purpose, aside from the annual atonement rites.

During each census, every Israelite is required to contribute half a shekel as atonement for their life.

A bronze basin is to be crafted for the priests to wash their hands and feet before performing their duties.

A special oil formula is to be prepared, and all sacred items are to be anointed with it.

A specific incense formula is to be positioned in front of the Ark.

Key verse:
10.  Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once ayear. With the blood of the sin offering of atonement he shall make atonementfor it once in the year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the LORD.”

My thoughts:
The annual atonement holds profound significance, particularly when considered in the context of Jesus’ atonement, which is detailed further in Leviticus 16.

The atonement money is distinct from a tax. Both the rich and the poor are required to pay the same amount, underscoring the principle that atonement for life transcends economic status, and in the eyes of the Bible, the rich and the poor have equal worth.
