Exodus 26 : Tabernacle construction manual

February 15, 2024 ·

God commands the construction of the tabernacle using ten curtains of equal size, connected by loops and golden clasps, made from goat’s hair. These curtains are to cover a frame made of acacia wood. The structure is to include twenty frames on both the south and north sides, each with forty silver bases, and six frames for the west end, plus two additional frames for the far end. Acacia wood crossbars are also required. An internal curtain is to divide the holy place from the most holy place, where the Ark of the Covenant (or Testimony) will reside. The table and the lampstand are to be placed in the holy place, which is to have a curtained entrance.

Key verse:

30.  Then you shall erect the tabernacle according to the plan for it that you were shown on the mountain.

My thoughts:
Sheesh, if I got this set of construction instructions, then I’d be scratching my head more than once! It’s a bit hard to follow.

The tabernacle held great significance as it was the dwelling place for the Ark and, by extension, God Himself within the Most Holy Place. Access was restricted to very few individuals, and entering could be perilous. It served as a prototype for temples constructed later.
