Exodus 19 : God Calls Moses Up the Mountain

February 6, 2024 ·

Summary:
God instructed Moses to command the Israelites to uphold the covenant and avoid the fate of Egypt. He then instructed Moses to prepare and sanctify the people for His imminent arrival at Mount Sinai, warning that anyone other than Moses or Aaron approaching the mountain would face death. Moses relayed these instructions to the people, urging them to consecrate themselves and refrain from venturing onto the mountain. Subsequently, Moses and Aaron ascended the mountain.

Key verses:
5-6 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine;  and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people ofIsrael.”

My thoughts:
Despite Israel’s consecration to God, His dominion extends over all creation. In the absence of an understanding of Jesus’ redemptive sacrifice, the people underwent purification rituals to approach God, with the risk of death for those who trespassed. Today, through Jesus, we have access to God, yet we must still recognize His holiness and our unworthiness, underscoring the importance of reverence in our approach to Him.
