Exodus 8 : Let my people go!

December 5, 2023 ·

Summary:
God instructs Moses and Aaron to approach Pharaoh once more, this time with the threat of a plague of frogs. Pharaoh refuses to release them, resulting in the land becoming infested with frogs. The magicians are also able to replicate this plague. Pharaoh says he will permit their departure if Moses prays and removes the frogs. Moses prays, the frogs die, but Pharaoh’s heart remains hardened, and he does not allow them to leave.

Next came the gnats, and this time, the magicians were unable to reproduce them as Moses and Aaron did. They confess that God is behind the plagues brought by Moses and Aaron.

Despite this, Pharaoh still does not listen, and the flies are the next plague. The flies infest everywhere except Goshen, where the Hebrews live. Pharaoh summons Moses and Aaron and offers to release them if they remove the flies. They comply, but Pharaoh still refuses to let them go.

Key verse:
19. Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the LORD had said.

My thoughts:
This part of the Bible is very famous and quite exciting to me. When I read it, I always envision the scenes from ‘The Prince of Egypt’ in my mind. I loved that movie.

The plagues are becoming increasingly severe and numerous. The magicians are unable to replicate these plagues, and they acknowledge that God is the source behind them. Pressure is mounting on Pharaoh as his land is being devastated by the God of the Hebrews. However, Pharaoh refuses to release them until God has finished demonstrating His power.
