Genesis 6: Plans to Destroy the Sinful World

June 6, 2023 ·

Summary:
People’s lives are limited to 120 years. The Lord decides to wipe out His creation because it has become too sinful. God commands Noah to create a boat and put animals and food in it along with his family.

Key verse:
18. But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.

My thoughts:
God’s plan to destroy the world can be seen as quite harsh, but it is also an early indication of God’s desire to cleanse and eradicate evil, purging the sin that resides among us.

I find it amazing that Noah actually built the ark! Imagine if you sensed that God was asking you to drop everything and embark on an enormous project that would seem pointless unless the world was suddenly flooded—an event that was not exactly certain! Noah’s unwavering faith shines through as he constructs a boat, trusting in God’s promise. He truly exemplifies a person of faith, relying on God’s guidance and taking action in anticipation of an event he had to trust God about.
