Leviticus 7: More About Offerings

March 16, 2024 ·

Summary:
There’s a recap of the guilt offering, then…
The guilt and sin offerings belong to the priests.

If a fellowship offering is given in thankfulness, then a meat offering is to be presented, accompanied by a variety of cakes and wafers, both with and without yeast. It belongs to the priest, and the meat is to be eaten on the same day.

If it’s an offering made due to a vow or given freely, then it can be eaten on the second day as well.

Anyone who is clean can eat the meat, unless the meat touches something unclean – in which case, it should be burned.

Do not eat the fat or blood.

From each fellowship offering, the priests receive the breast (after it has been waved as an offering) and the right thigh, while the fat is burned.

These are all the laws for the offerings that Moses received on Mount Sinai for the priests to follow from now on.

Key verses:
37. This is the law of the burnt offering, of the grain offering, of the sin offering, of the guilt offering, of the ordination offering, and of the peace offering,
38. which the LORD commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day that he commanded the people of Israel to bring their offerings to the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai.

My thoughts:
This marks the end of the regulations regarding offerings and related matters (for now, anyway). The strict regulations about different offerings demonstrate the importance God places on giving and offerings. Each offering has a purpose, which ultimately benefits the Israelites.
